The
mixture smells and tastes good to us which cannot be said of all
handfeeding formulas. An unexpected bonus was the ease with which one
can clean the chicks. When we first started hand feeding, twelve years
ago, we used spoons of varying sizes throughout and found great
difficulty cleaning the feathers. Some chicks delighting in shaking
their heads just as the spoon was presented. This problem was
minimised by the use of syringes from five to seven days old. Now life
is even easier as when Exact dries it powders and is removed without
effort. When we had very few babies spoon feeding was not a problem
but now with so many mouths to feed especially at the height of the
season a syringe is essential.
Full
instructions for feeding with Exact Formula are included on the
packaging, and sizes vary from a 624 grams canister up to a 9 Kilogram
bucket. Also available from Kaytee is a video on hand feeding and this
is of use to all, but especially to beginners.
